Working as an international student in United Kingdom

The short version, for students from outside the country. Your own residence permit decides what applies to you.

In short

  • On a Student visa for a degree course you can usually work up to 20 hours a week in term time, and full-time in official vacations.
  • Below degree level the limit is usually 10 hours a week. Your visa (BRP or eVisa) shows your limit.
  • Some work is never allowed, such as self-employment or a permanent full-time job.
