Working as an international student in Italy

The short version, for students from outside the country. Your own residence permit decides what applies to you.

In short

  • Students with a residence permit for study can usually work up to 20 hours a week, up to 1,040 hours a year.
  • The work must not get in the way of your studies.
  • Check the conditions on your own permit with the local police headquarters (Questura).

EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can usually work in Italy without a work permit or an hour limit.
