Student work rules

Working as an international student in Spain

The short version, for students from outside the country. Your own residence permit decides what applies to you.

In short

  • With a student stay authorisation you can usually work up to 30 hours a week, as long as the work fits around your studies.
  • The work is tied to your student permit: it ends when your studies end.
  • Your contract has to be registered with social security like any other job.

EU, EEA and Swiss citizens can usually work in Spain without a work permit or an hour limit.
